Internet

Internet is the biggest database in the world.  Approximately 15 billion computers are connected to the internet in 2015.

The first version of internet was established in 1969. The early version was known as ‘Arpanet’

Effects of the internet [Work-related uses]:

  • Websites: websites are hosted on the internet and allow the business to advertise all around the world.
  • Video conferencing: allows lots of business people from different countries have conference in their area without moving
  • Email: it’s a message over the internet
  • File transfer: file can be sent very quickly into different areas

Email

Email allows people to exchange digital messages. Emails can be sent between the people who have email address. Emails are sent across networks usually either LAN or WAN.

The first email was sent in 1971 by a computer engineer named Ray Tomlinson. It was transferred through arpanet.

Effects of the Email [Work-related uses]:

  • Fast communication: emails transfer instantly even though the large distance
  • Easy communication: the same emails can be sent to many people
  • File transfer: files can be also sent by email
  • Efficient marketing: emails contain the special offers or promotions and send to the customer’s email address

Fax

Fax machines send scanned text or image across the telephone connection.

Allows two or more locations to carry out two-way video and audio connections.

Reduced Costs: People can have conference in different places, don’t need to spend money on moving

Time Efficiency: Don’t need to spend time on moving to certain place to have conference

More regular meetings: Easier to gather the people, don’t need much time to set up and have conference

But if someone has bad internet connection, the conference wouldn’t be carried out smoothly, there will be lack of communication.

Mobile Telephones

These are wireless devices allow users to make calls from any areas. It’s using radio signals.

Modern mobiles have useful features such as:

  • Send/receive text messages
  • Send/receive pictures
  • Send/receive files
  • Email
  • Internet access
  • Digital camera
  • Business applications
  • Social Network Service

The first commercial mobile was released by Motorola in 1983, its name was DynaTAC 8000X.

VoIP allows users to talk to each other over the Internet. It’s usually free of charge.
